Hoffman Warnick is proud to announce the appointment of Ernest Cusick as Counsel and Franklin Abrams as Special Counsel.
Ernest G. Cusick
Ernest Cusick’s practice focuses on patent strategy and procurement, as well as technology development. Mr. Cusick has worked with a wide array of clients, from engineers to business executives; assisting with the development and protection of innovations, as well as trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets. His intellectual property experience of 37+ years includes many years at the USPTO as a Primary and Petitions Examiner, at an IP law firm, IP counsel for a global research & development center, and a multi-national technology company. His technological experience includes controls, computer software and hardware, turbomachinery, electronics, and materials. Most recently, Mr. Cusick was the Manager of the General Electric Global Patent Operation, where he managed Patent Attorneys/Agents, paraprofessionals and legal staff, while also overseeing the patent portfolios for Aviation, Power and Corporate Global Research.
Mr. Cusick’s background includes a B.S. in Materials Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a J.D. from George Mason University – Antonin Scalia Law School, with a Patent Law specialization and concentration. He is admitted to practice in Commonwealth of Virginia and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Franklin Abrams
Franklin Abrams’ practice includes a spectrum of Intellectual Property Law matters. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Abrams has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications and drafting opinions concerning patentability, validity, non-infringement, enforceability, and Hatch-Waxman Paragraph IV certifications. His scientific training has enabled him to work with a wide range of technologies in his patent practice including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals (small molecules and formulations), synthetic biology, biomaterials, biologicals, protein structures, antibodies, agricultural sciences, medical devices, life sciences, and the chemical arts including industrial chemistry.
Dr. Abrams’ background includes a B.S. in Chemistry from SUNY Oneonta, an M.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from SUNY Stony Brook, as well as a J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
